This page explains what cookies are, which cookies we use on the Serenity Fort Hotel website, why we use them, and how you can control them.
The short version. We use only the cookies that the site needs to work — a small set of essential cookies to remember form data, route requests, and serve pages. We do not use marketing, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies. You can browse the entire Site without consenting to any optional cookies, because there are none.

1. What are cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to the operators of the site. “Similar technologies” include local storage, web beacons, and pixels — we use the term “cookies” in this Policy to refer to all of them.
Cookies can be set by the website you are visiting (first-party cookies) or by a different website that runs content on the page you are visiting (third-party cookies).
2. Cookie categories we use
The Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 requires us to inform you about the cookies we use and obtain your consent before any non-essential cookies are set. We currently use only one category:
- Strictly necessary cookies — these cookies are essential for the website to function (for example, to remember dates you enter in the booking form, or to serve secure pages). They do not require consent because, without them, the site cannot work. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a functional website.
We do not use:
- Functional / preference cookies (e.g. language preference)
- Analytics cookies (no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Fathom, no custom analytics)
- Marketing or advertising cookies (no Facebook Pixel, no Google Ads, no retargeting)
- Third-party tracking cookies of any kind

4. Third-party cookies
To our knowledge, no third-party cookies are set on your device when you browse this Site. The fonts we use are loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). Where the browser fetches fonts, Google may log the request (IP address, user-agent) under their own privacy policy; we consider this a strictly necessary function for rendering text on the Site.
If we ever embed content from a third party (for example, a YouTube video or a Google Map), we will display a notice before the content loads and give you the option to opt out. At present, no such embeds exist on this Site.
5. How to control cookies
Because we only set strictly necessary cookies, no consent banner is shown on this Site — there is nothing to opt in or out of.
If you wish, you can still block or delete the strictly necessary cookies in your browser settings. If you do so, parts of the Site (such as remembering the dates you entered into the booking form between pages) may stop working, but you can still send enquiries by filling in each form in one go.

We respect the “Do Not Track” (DNT) browser setting. Because we do not track users across our Site in any way, no changes are required on our end when DNT is enabled.
8. Changes to this policy
If we add a new cookie category (for example, if we later decide to use a privacy-respecting analytics tool), we will update this page, refresh the “Effective” date, and request your consent before any such cookies are set. Material changes that affect the cookies we use will be communicated on the home page for at least 30 days.
